Chi Mak, a naturalized U.S. citizen born in http://www.wvwnews.net/story.php?id=3130, has been sentenced to 24 years in prison and fined $50,000 for being what federal prosecutors called “the hub” of a family spy network providing sensitive technogical inforrmation to Red China. Four other members of Chi Mak’s family have already pled guilty to related charges.

Chi Mak was an electrical engineer at Power Paragon, an Anaheim, California company that worked on US Navy contracts. His arrest came after an eighteen month investigation ended with the capture of two relatives as they attempted to fly to China with encrypted secret information. The Chinese target was alleged to be data on new silent submarine engines.

Chi Mak was http://www.wvwnews.net/story.php?id=2779 at sentencing. “I never intended to violate any law at all. I never intended to hurt this country. I love this country. I still hope for justice. I have been living in the U.S. for almost 30 years. My career is here. My friends are here. This is my country,” he said.The feds say that as a result of the Chi Mak investigation, they broke up another Chinese spy ring. A Chinese immigrant named Dongfan “Greg” Chung was arrested in in February of 2008 for allegedly providing the Chinese with stolen US trade secrets, among them space shuttle information and details of the Delta IV rocket. Chung allegedly pocketed the loot while working for Rockwell International and Boeing.
