UK: Iraq war ‘most costly since WW2’

“No more lies; no more spin; no more excuses; no more wasted young lives or broken young bodies – Bring Them Home!”

Why are essential services collapsing even as your tax bill rises? Well, apart from the cost of Brown’s Army of 600,0000 extra town hall parasites, the £billions wasted on building and policing the political class’s wonderful multi-cult society, and the £1.3 million it costs every hour for Britain to be part of the EU, here’s another key factor: The total cost of the Iraq war has soared to £6.6 billion – making it the most costly conflict since the Second World War.

New calculations, made by the Financial Times and based on the latest Whitehall departmental spending figures, show that when aid, Iraqi debt relief and security costs are taken into account, the total is £1.6 billion higher than the £5 billion outlay admitted by the Treasury. Experts say the figure still underestimates the true total because it does not take into hidden costs such as extra salaries and the long-term care for soldiers who have suffered mentally and physically. With around 50% of our soldiers serving in Afghanistan now being either killed or injured during their six month tours of duty, this latter figure is sadly going to grow ever higher.

The bills that taxpayers are footing for the war in Afghanistan are still running at a lower level than Iraq – but the gap is closing as the fight against Taliban insurgents intensifies. The armed forces directly spent £956 million in Iraq in 2006-7 compared to £738 million in Afghanistan.

While Blair started both these insane wars, there is no getting away from the fact that Brown backed him to the hilt, and that they are both HIS wars now. Likewise, Dave Cameron has always been in favour of this shattering waste of British blood and treasure in a pair of conflicts that have nothing whatsoever to do with British interests. The excuse that Afghanistan would become a terrorist training camp if we pull out is truly and deeply pathetic – for the truth is that it’s a giant terrorist training camp already, complete with thousands of ill-equipped, out-numbered, betrayed British squaddies providing target practice and live fire exercises.

This is why the British National Party is campaigning for our Boys and Girls to be withdrawn from Iraq and Afghanistan immediately. No more lies; no more spin; no more excuses; no more wasted young lives or broken young bodies – Bring Them Home!

The independent ex-servicemen’s organisation http://www.abex.org.uk/ is also campaigning against the futile wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and for the decent and properly funded treatment of our injured heroes from those and other conflicts.
