DREAM Act Denied, Whiners Whine

Nice job for stopping this insanity. You know who you are. — Ed.

On International Migrants Day, December 18, 2010, the Grinch again stole Christmas for so many young people across this country who were pinning their hopes on the passage of the DREAM Act.

Again, a DREAM has been denied by bigots with no obvious heart – including the likes of the hypocritical Senator John McCain, who has gone from co-authoring immigration reform legislation to voting against kids.

As if setting Sarah Palin on us was not enough, now McCain feels it necessary to stifle the dreams of the many brown and black young immigrants in this country who desperately need help.

He and forty others senators saw it necessary to shut down The DREAM (Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors) Act that would have allowed young undocumented immigrants with a high school diploma or a GED to apply for conditional U.S. status if they are under the age of 30 and arrived the U.S. before the age of 16. After a long process – including two years of service in the military or enrollment in college – they would then have been eligible to apply for legal immigrant status.

All in the name of supporting amnesty for illegals. Say what? So here’s a question for you 41 senators – ask yourselves who plants the food you feast on?; who cleans the fish in the super markets or washes your dishes in the restaurants where you spend taxpayer dollars?

The 41 seemed oblivious to reality that it is undocumented immigrants who are at work in this country’s farms, factories, supermarkets and restaurants. They were unfazed by the struggles of so many and only blinded by their bigoted sense of illegal versus legal.

They included Democrats Mark Pryor of Arkansas, Jon Tester of Montana, Max Baucus of Montana, Kay Hagan of North Carolina, and Ben Nelson of Nevada – all states where immigrants are the unseen backbone of the engines of these economies.

Few seemed obvious to the fact that all of us, except for the Native Americans in this country, are immigrants or descendants of immigrants.

The reality is that to shut down a dream as these senators have this Christmas season, on a measure that would help not hurt this country shows nothing but plain ignorance and hate.

Today, I hope the many immigrant advocates and immigrants across this country will remember closely the 41 senators who shattered the hopes of a DREAM.  I also hope they will remember those who voted for it, including Republican Sens. Richard Lugar, Lisa Murkowski, and Robert Bennett. The three deserve special accolades.

So what now? Well as far as I am concerned, immigrants should all show up at the offices of these 41 and let them arrest and deport them. Let’s shut the engines of these economy down for a day and show America and all lawmakers what it would be like to have a day without immigrants.

In addition, since immigrants are taking away jobs from Americans according to so many zealots, let’s turn the farm jobs, the hotel maid jobs, the nanny jobs, the housekeeping jobs, and the dish washing, fish gutting jobs over to the tens of thousands of unemployed and see if they would take them? I think not!

And while we are at it – lets do like Kanye West and toast to the 41 douche bags, scum bags and jerk offs and their supporters who really think immigrants are here simply to get amnesty. Here’s to all of you who keep burying your heads in the sands of ignorance and bigotry. Happy holidays to you all!
