Earlier, the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Mark Potoksaid that “yesterday, Rush Limbaugh was on the air talking about anincidentin which black kids attacked a white kid on a school bus [1], an incidentthepolice said was not racially motivated, and saying that what we needare segregatedbuses, that this is the only way, I suppose, that white people can beprotected fromblack people. I think when we have characters like Limbaugh saying thaton theair to millions of Americans, many of whom actually revere the man, youknow, it’snot surprising that people feel that, you know, the race war is aroundthe corner and that we’re allowed to say these kinds of things.”
[1] In spite of the overwhelming preponderance of black on white crime the police rarely if ever charge blacks with hate crimes.
