An “American” professor (contact info below) is warning that a new breed of racism is emerging through globalisation. **
Associate professor Zeus Leonardo (pictured right) from the University of Californiaat Berkeley says the media and the internet are projecting images ofwhite society across the world.
Professor Leonardo, speaking in Adelaide, said younger generationsof people all around the world are internalising the white values andcomparing them to their own.
He says this process can lead to individuals despising their own background, rather than hating a particular race.
“The most popular global TV show was Baywatch and what you see inthere is the sort of exportation of white standards of beauty all overthe world,” he said.
“Kids from diverse places such as Germany but also in small townslet’s say in Taiwan are looking at the images of white beauty.”
