The American Latino Media Arts Award, or ALMA Award is a distinction awarded to Latino actors, film and television directors, and musicians who promote positive portrayals of Latinos in the entertainment field. In Spanish alma means spirit or soul.

Created in 1995 by the National Council of La Raza, it takes over from the previous Bravo Awards. It’s part of NCLR’s strategy to counter the negative stereotyping of Latinos in US entertainment. The awards are given during an annual ceremony held in June.

The European American Media Arts Award is a distinction awarded to European American film and television directors, and musicians who promote positive portrayals of white people in the entertainment field as well as leading by example toward an ethical society.

Created in 2007 by European Americans United, it takes over from the previous Bravo Awards. It’s part of EAU’s strategy to counter the negative stereotyping of white people in US entertainment. The awards are given during an annual ceremony held in June.
