Scottish Cultural Group Slams Burger King For Racial Stereotyping

Hungary’s AlbannachScottish Cultural Association has filed a complaint with theauthorities and called for a boycott of the Hungarian subsidiary offast food chain Burger King, saying that its new Scottish Menu evokedassociations of parsimony.

Albannach president TamasLajos Szalay said that Burger King’s selection of the name was based ona false stereotype of Scottish people as being mean, which he thoughtwas offensive to Scottish people both in the UK and in Hungary.

The association has issued a complaint to the national consumerprotection authority as well as the self-regulating advertising body.

Szalay said that the restaurant was not using the name in other countries.

According to Albannach’s president, Andras Pettko, MP of the smallopposition Democratic Forum party, and Scottish Parliamentary MP MikePringle are among those supporting the boycott.
