Plans are afoot to inflict another piece of http://www.wvwnews.net/story.php?id=4393 upon the unfortunate people of the North East.

This time it is for a bizarre giant head which will be a http://www.wvwnews.net/story.php?id=4275 50+ feet tall and will stand ominously on the edge of Newton Aycliffe. It will be a blot on the landscape and will ruin the view from miles around.

The head looks very zombie-like and stands just a few feet short of the equally poor “Angel of the North.”

Its http://www.wvwnews.net/story.php?id=242 head made of rusting steel a fitting representation of Britain under Brown Labour.

It is designed to look incomplete with bare steelwork. This “Art” will obviously not be to many people’s taste and taking into account the imposing “in yer face” size of the erection and the cost involved – estimated at £165,000 – local council tax payers should have been given a say via a referendum.

The good people of Newton Aycliffe should be spared this hideous creation. Why not have a sensible sized statue of a patriotic hero or somebody of local importance instead? The North East is gaining a reputation of being a home to pseudo-intellectual ‘art’.

Such ugly sculptures which litter our towns and cities should be scoured from our beautiful region and sent to the furnaces for recycling in one big purge.

People like Joseph Hillier who designed the Aycliffe head should be prohibited from thrusting such vulgar spectacles into any public space – particularly when they are financed with public money at a time when sheltered housing for pensioners is being slashed by virtually every council in the area.
