Thousands of people gather in Kosovo for the first electoral rally of the ultranationalist Serbian Radical Party ahead of the polls.

“These elections are a good opportunity to vote for those who say: ‘We will not give away Kosovo,” the party leader Tomislav Nikolic told the crowd gathered in Gracanica, a Serb enclave near the Kosovo capital Pristina, on Saturday.

Nikolic warned the Kosovo leadership, which proclaimed the independence of the Balkan territory on February 17, that they “can build up their institutions, but we will never give them Kosovo.” Kosovo’s unilateral declaration of independence from Serbia has been recognized so far by more than 35 countries.

There were no incidents reported at the rally, secured by a strong UN and local police presence, as well as a contingent from the NATO-led peacekeeping force (KFOR).

Several KFOR checkpoints were set up on roads leading to the enclave.
