U.S. District Judge John McBryde ruled against a Euless man who practiced animal sacrifice as part of his http://www.wvwnews.net/story.php?id=1328 religion, saying Jose Merced could practice the ceremonies elsewhere and that the city was protecting the public’s health by banning the practice in the city limits.

Merced said he is thinking about appealing the decision.

“I’m a little surprised about it,” he said, saying that the city had not received any complaints about the practice before May 2006. The city halted a ceremony that Merced was planning in May 2006, citing city rules that prohibit animal cruelty, keeping livestock and disposing of animal waste.

He filed a federal lawsuit in December 2006, saying the city had infringed on his religious freedom. His attorney, John Wheat Gibson, said, “They never heard of anyone being harmed in any way, not even a stomachache.”
