The biggest flaw in people like this girl isn’t so much “absentee moralism” as it is excessive sentimentality.
We inherited the legacy of Rome. We conquered forests, drained wetlands, changed rivers. We tamed the wild Auruchs and with our heavy plow transformed wilderness into cornucopia. We established universities reviving the sciences of our ancient forebearers and built and defended the fortresses of Europe against all intruders. We gave Humanity new ideas, new technology . . . and new hope.
But somewhere along the way we became deluded weak minded fools who believe that we can suspend the laws of nature and turn Ghana into Norway.
