Louis Farrakhan spoke to a crowd of thousands in Atlanta, GA who cheered his message of “separation.”
Farrakhan urged the crowd to separate from “mainstream” culture and do more to support the black community, making statements that appeared to be outright pleas for racial segregation.
Farrakhan also criticized black youth culture in America.
“I want to talk to my gang-banging family,” he said. “You make it very difficult for me. In the ’60s we knew who the enemy was. But in 2007 you are the enemy. How can I do what is right by you while I watch you do wrong by one another?”
Farrakhan criticized middle and upper class blacks for leaving the black community behind.“A life of ease sometimes makes you forget the struggle,” he warned. “It’s becoming a plantation again, but you can’t fight that because you want to keep your little job.”
“It’s time for you scared-to-death Negroes to bite the dust,” he said. “Our people must be free. This peaceful coexistence with the murder of our people has to stop.”
The speech was broadcast live via satellite to 120 cities.

4. We want our people in America whose parents or grandparents were descendants from slaves, to be allowed to establish a separate state or territory of their own–either on this continent or elsewhere.
9. We want equal education–but separate schools up to 16 for boys and 18 for girls on the condition that the girls be sent to women’s colleges and universities. We want all black children educated, taught and trained by their own [black teachers.
10. We believe that intermarriage or race mixing should be prohibited.
