Brutal Beating Caught on Tape: Victim Needs Your help

Four people purportedly stood still and let it happen

Cleveland, OH – The man accused in a brutal beating faced a judge Friday morning.

Emmanuel Bell (B) denied he beat Owen Rufty, pictured right (W) within inches of his life – a crime that was captured on store surveillance tape. Rufty was working at a Cleveland convenience store when he was attacked with a brick. Police tell 19 Action News Bell attacked so he could rob the Shell Station at Fleet & Broadway.

What’s worse – a crowd gathered to watch the beating that lasted for over seven minutes.

Luckily, a witness phoned police who promptly arrested Bell with some rolls of change he’d stolen from the cash register. The 36-year-old is no stranger to police – and is listed in their computer as having violent tendencies.

He’s charged with aggravated robbery and felonious assault. The judge set bond at $100K. If you would like to help Owen Rufty’s mounting medical bills, you may do so beginning Monday, October 1st at any US Bank.

Following the Jena Six movement this kind of random violence against European Americans seems to be on the upswing.
