Still Missing: Please Help

European Americans United asks its readership of Western Voices World News to be on the lookout for this missing child.

The mother of the missing girl Madeleine McCann has appealed directly to the kidnapper to return her daughter.

The three-year-old girl disappeared from the Ocean Club holiday resort in Praia da Luz at 9.30pm last Thursday.

Kate McCann asked to make the statement hours before the detective in charge of the investigation admitted that he did not know if Madeleine was alive or if she was still in the Algarve region.

Staring into the camera, Mrs McCann said: “We beg you to let Madeleine to come home.”

Mrs McCann, a GP, and her husband Gerry, a cardiologist, both 38, were separated from their 18-month-old twins Sean and Amelie for the first time since Madeline vanished.

The couple left them with a child-minding service at the Ocean Club for three hours to make the statement.

Later, Chief Inspector Olegario Sousa, of the Portuguese National Crime Squad, told a chaotic press conference that he was not even sure that Madeleine had been abducted.

Mr Sousa said: “This is being treated as the disappearance of a little girl. But obviously we have not ruled out the possibility that she has been abducted.”

He said that legal restraints in Portugal meant that the police were forbidden from releasing any evidence in the case, even if it would help in the search for Madeleine. It would be illegal for Mr and Mrs McCann to be informed of the details of their investigation.

Unlike the UK, there is not an extensive CCTV network in Portugal. This means that detectives are unable to trace a pattern of movements or identify potential suspects.
