Zimbabwe: Death Threat To Diplomat

“Government” newspaper “warns” UK embassy staffer

The main government newspaper in Zimbabwe has printed a death threat against a British embassy official.

The warning to political officer Gillian Dare is the strongest attack yet on Western diplomats in the country.

The Herald warned Ms Dare she “could one day be caught in crossfire as she plays night nurse to arrested MDC hooligans”.

It added: “It will be a pity for her family to welcome her at Heathrow airport in a body bag just like some of her colleagues from Iraq and Afghanistan.”

Ms Dare was also accused of financing a terror campaign by government opponents.

The article claimed she had been “labelled in some sections of the media as a British spy”.The British Foreign Office called the article “shocking and absolutely unacceptable”.
