Ft. Hood And “Racism”

Political correctness. Again.

[From original article]:

Army Chief of Staff George Casey warned against reaching conclusionsabout the suspected shooter’s motives until investigators have fullyexplored the attack. He said on ABC’s “This Week” that focusing onHasan’s Islamic roots could “heighten the backlash” against all Muslimsin the military.

There had been signs in recent months thatHasan’s growing anger with the U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan wereat odds with his military service, including his comments that the waron terror was “a war on Islam.” Others who knew Hasan, an Armypsychiatrist, said he had wrestled with what to tell fellow Muslimsolders who had their doubts about fighting in Islamic countries.

“Itold him, ‘There’s something wrong with you,’ ” Osman Danquah,co-founder of the Islamic Community of Greater Killeen, told TheAssociated Press on Saturday. “I didn’t get the feeling he was talkingfor himself, but something just didn’t seem right.”

Danquah assumed the military’s chain of command knew about Hasan’sdoubts, which had been known for more than a year to Hasan’s classmatesat a Maryland graduate military medical program. There, studentscomplained to faculty about Hasan’s “anti-American propaganda,” butsaid a fear of appearing discriminatory against a Muslim student keptofficers from filing a formal complaint. *Political correctness, the process of which forces even the most reasonable person to tolerate the intolerable lest they are charged as “racists”, effectively stymied any preemptive measures that could have prevented this horror. However, let a white soldier discuss something even remotely akin to ‘white pride’ and he will quite possibly face a discharge or even jail time.–Ed.
