Desmond Tutu: Anglican Church ‘Obssessed’ With Gays

Archbishop Desmond Tutu (right) has accused the Anglican church of allowingits “obsession” with homosexuality to come before real action on worldpoverty.**

“God is weeping” to see such a focus on sexuality and the Church is”quite rightly” seen by many as irrelevant on the issue of poverty, hesaid.

It may be good to “accept that we agree to differ” on the gay issue, he said.

Archbishop Tutu was in London to address a conference organised by the Christian charity Tearfund.

The Church says its work on poverty tends to be overlooked.

Traditionalists suspect that the call for an end to discussions abouthomosexuality is designed to allow liberal developments to gounchallenged.

Others, including Bishop John Packer, insist that the Church must havea sexual ethic – a sense of what is right and wrong in sexualbehaviour.

Most agree that only by staying united will it continue to exercise real influence on the world stage.

**We think Desmond Tutu is more concerned about his own people, the vast majority of which comprise “the world’s poverty.” We have noted in a side article back in June that Tutu wants the UN to assist in crooked Zimbabwe elections under President Robert Mugabee, and says nothing concerning the white farmers who have been eviscerated by his own people. He fools no one. — Ed.
