Mexicans Flee Gunfire by Running Across U.S. Border

Two of them were injured by the gunshots and the third sustains a broken arm

Gunfire in a Mexican border town forced at least three Mexicans to run across the U.S. border, authorities said on Saturday.

The Mexicans crossed the border in Campo to seek medical treatment after they were fired on in Mexico. Two of them were injured by the gunshots and the third sustains a broken arm, according to the Sheriff’s Department in San Diego, about 128 kilometers south of Los Angeles.

Lt. Larry Nesbit of the Sheriff’s Department said the department responded to a radio call of three gunshot victims along California highway 94 near the Mountain Empire Recreation Center.

Nesbit said one person was shot in the upper left leg and another sustained a bullet graze to the head, both victims were airlifted to a hospital. A third victim had a broken arm and was also taken to a hospital.Nesbit said the shooting occurred about 10:40 p.m. local time Friday in Mexico. “We still don’t know the motive for the shooting, ” Nesbit said. No other victims were found after an aerial search. Further information about the three victims and their conditions was not known.
