In a carefully-coordinated plan, Donahue accepted the apology with a statement of his own.“The tone of Hagee’s letter is sincere,” Donahue said. “He wants reconciliation and he has achieved it. Indeed, the Catholic League welcomes his apology.”

He was wrong about those papists after all. Hagee’s whole world view and career (not to mention his theology) is based on political manipulation. His “Christian Zionism” is extreme even by the standards of the Christian Right, whose own views flout two millenia of clear Christian teaching. Hagee denies that the Jewish people even need Jesus, who he claims was not even the Christ (Messiah) in the first place. Hagee goes so far as to order his followers to disobey Christ’s “Great Commission” (Gospel of St. Matthew 28:16-20) and not witness to the Jews he hosts at his “Salute to Israel” shows or on his “pilgrimages” to Israel.
