Black Boy Loses to White Man

The “Welsh Dragon” demolishes Bernard Hopkins

“I would never lose to a white boy,” crowed Bernard Hopkins to Joe Richards treatment for Hopkins, of course, due to his proper pigmentation.

But, who never lost his cool or responded in kind, doled out a more satisfying punishment on Saturday night. In front of an HBO audience and celebrities such as Katherine Zeta Jones, Tom Jones, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jay Z and Whitney Houston, Calzaghe won a relatively easy decision against Hopkins. The “Welsh Dragon” improved to 45-0 and cemented his status as one of the best fighters of all time. He will be ranked as the second best “pound-for-pound” fighter in boxing and perhaps the first should Oscar Dela Hoya defeat Floyd Mayweather this fall.

But the good news doesn’t end there as white boxers went 3-0 in the big caste match ups on Saturday. Earlier in the day, former light heavyweight champion Tomasz Adamek stopped former cruiserweight titlist O’Neil Bell when Bell quit at the end of the 7th round. The Polish warrior now will face Steve Cunningham for the IBF strap. The winner will be the top dog at cruiserweight now that David Haye is moving to heavyweight. White fighters such as Enzo Maccaranelli, Krzystof Wlodarczyk, Rudolph Kraj and Gregory Drozd figure to be in the hunt for titles at 200 as well.A pair of Romanians showed that they will be a force in boxing for years to come. Adrian Diaconu won a tough decision over undefeated black American Chris Henry. He is now the mandatory challenger for the IBF belt of Chad Dawson. Junior welterweight Jo Jo Dan knocked out former champion Raul Balbi in the 3rd round. Diaconu and Dan look to join countryman Lucian Bute as world champions.

A great night for white fighters was seemingly capped off at the UFC 83 event as Georges St. Pierre and Rich Franklin showed that white dominance of UFC/MMA is likely to continue well into the future.

There are many more caste match ups coming up in both boxing and MMA and though it is unlikely that whites will win all of them, we will surely win most of them.

The real capper of the night came from the usually reserved Calzaghe when asked if Hopkins had said anything to him after the fight. “He didn’t say much,” Joe said, grinning triumphantly, “because he’d just gotten his ass kicked by a white guy.”
