Federal officials are claiming that they have broken up a pair of espionage operations which had been passing secret military and technology information to Red China.

Arrested are Gregg William Bergersen, listed as a “Pentagon official,” and his alleged partners, Yu Xin Kang, a Chinese citizen and Tai Shen Kuo, a Taiwanese immigrant. The government claims that Bergersen, who worked for the Defense Security Cooperation Agency and had a top secret security clearance, sold the Asians secret materials, which they passed to China’s spy agency. Bergersen’s information reportedly dealt with US support for Taiwan, which China regards as a rogue province.

A Chinese immigrant named Dongfan “Greg” Chung was arrested in a separate case, for allegedly providing the Chinese with stolen US trade secrets, among them space shuttle information and details of the Delta IV rocket. Chung allegedly pocketed the loot while working for Rockwell International and Boeing. The government says the Chung arrest comes out of the 2007 Chi Mak case. Chi Mak was an engineer who was convicted of running a family spy network which pilfered data about Navy submarine engines on behalf of China.
