John McCain: Three Wrongs Don’t Make A Right

McCain’s record proves he is not worthy

It has been said that each successful Presidential candidate appeals to a particular constituency. Barack Obama receives the black votes, Mike Huckabee the Evangelicals, and Ron Paul those who support constitutional government.

John http://wvwnews.net/story.php?id=3208 as a naval officer, persistent support for increased military spending, and service as a ranking member of the armed services committee while rationalizing their endorsement. Former Democratic vice Presidential Candidate Joe Lieberman endorsed McCain due to his national security credentials. In defense of his support, Lieberman made his primary motive clear. “He is the most capable to be commander in chief on day one of his administration, and the most capable of uniting the country so that we can prevail against Islamic extremism.”However, McCain’s record proves he is not worthy of the praise given. Major policy stances throughout his congressional career prove that he lacks three qualities to properly protect the American people.

First, his belief that “they hate us because we are free” lacks a grasp of simple logic. Throughout his Congressional career he has continued to support American troop presence in the Middle East, recommended three times more troops to start the Iraq War, and has pushed for a substantial increase in war funding despite approaching the $500 Billion mark. While McCain continues to rally his base behind a deceptive and overused mantra, it is policies he supports which have caused terrible suffering in the Middle East. The reason for their hatred is simple: actions by the American government have resulted in consequences for the Middle East.

Second, McCain’s policy which causes great hatred is followed by an invitation for citizenship. Along with Ted Kennedy, McCain helped lead passage of The Immigration Act of 1990 which created the Diversity Visa Lottery and significantly increased the number of immigrants permitted from the Middle East. Muslim immigration has increased substantially in recent years including over 95,000 in 2005 alone. The consequences of which include riots, murder, and mass atrocities in all Western nations which have adopted similar policies. Applying common sense in his decision would have prevented his vote supporting an increase in immigration levels from Middle Eastern nations.

In response to security issues caused by the two previously mentioned policies, McCain feels it is appropriate to grant government power at our expense. He helped to unanimously pass the Patriot Acts of 2001 and 2006 which legalized “roving wiretaps” and “sneak and peak warrants.” The result is the bypassing of the judicial branch by the executive. Votes in favor of both prove he possesses no understanding of our Bill of Rights in general, the 4th Amendment in particular or the role of Separation of Powers in our Republic.

The media and supporters will continue to publicize McCain as the man most able to succeed as Commander in Chief. It will be a difficult task to accomplish while supporting policies which ignore logic, common sense, and history. After all, three wrongs don’t make a right.
