Since the illegal Turkish invasion in 1974, Greek Cypriots have been denied the use of their property in occupied Cyprus. In many cases, that property has been stolen and handed over to Turkish settlers.
Upon passage, H.R. 1456 (the American-Owned Property in Occupied Cyprus Claims Act) would allow American citizens who own property in occupied Cyprus to approach U.S. courts to seek fair compensation for the loss of their property. Allowing individuals the opportunity to reclaim what has wrongfully been taken by force is a fundamental human right.

“It’s time Congress vindicate the property rights of U.S. citizens in Cyprus. Through this legislation, Americans who are being denied access to their property and even their ancestral homes will finally be able to seek restitution,” said Representative Frank Pallone Jr. (D – NJ) who introduced the bill.

Please take a few minutes to send your Member of Congress a message urging them to allow our courts to hear the stories of those who suffered the loss of their homes during the brutal Turkish invasion and subsequent occupation. Please urge them to support H.R. 1456 (the American-Owned Property in Occupied Cyprus Claims Act).
