Schools across Britain are to axe the traditional two week Easter holiday next year and move it two weeks on from the Christian festival.
The holiday will be moved to 4th April and called “spring holiday”. Children will be off school on Good Friday and Easter Monday, but will spend Maundy Thursday in school.
The move has been condemned by religious groups, politicians and education groups, saying that Christianity and its holy days must be at the centre of learning about religion in Britain. The suggestion that Christmas holidays should be renamed “winter break” have also been condemned.
The Local Government Association advised that schools should have a two week break in early April, regardless of when Easter was (the exact date of Easter varies from year to year owing to the cycle of the moon).http://bnp.org.uk/news_detail.php?newsId=1455
