    White Muslims Clash

    A Growing Regional Threat

Two persons were injured Friday in a shootout between two rival Muslim groups in Serbia’s southwestern Sandzak Region.

According to media reports police which rushed to the scene fired warning shots to separate two groups fighting over who will lay foundation for a religious school in the town of Tutin, about 180 kilometers (110 miles) southwest of Belgrade.

The Tutin police precinct identified the wounded man Enver Skriljelj a supporter of Muamer Zukorlic, a key local Muslim cleric. With serious gunshot wounds to both legs Skrijelj was hospitalized in the regional centre of Novi Pazar.

But Zukorlic’s Islamic community also said that another man identified as Faruk Zukorlic also received a gunshot wound and that a number of people involved in the brawl suffered light injuries.

His claims could not be independently confirmed.

Jakup Lekovic, chief of Zilkic’s office said that “Zukorlic’s supporters wanter to lay a foundation over an existing one which was laid a year ago.”
