Simon Darby Speaks to Arab World

The interview with BBC Arabic Television was broadcast live this morning at 11am. There was a little bit of an issue at the beginning when a question was fired at me in Arabic and they assumed that somebody would be translating, they were not. Thankfully, an English production engineer came across on the sound system and arranged for my questions and resultant responses to be interpreted. I think he found it amusing when I described my inability to understand anything that was being asked of me.

The questions revolved around the recent comments by Michael Nazir-Ali, Bishop of Rochester, which were published in the Sunday Telegraph about Muslim ghettos in Britain. I pointed out that it was only because Islam was so utterly incompatible with our society that they were being flagged up to blame above anyone else. In fact I insisted, it was the concept of multiculturalism that was to blame and the liberals that run this country for not being able to understand the consequences of their irresponsible social engineering project.

Next I was asked about Muslims in general and I explained that although the BNP might criticise Islam in this country we have no quarrel with Muslims outside of our own homeland. Emphasising the difference between the internationalist Conservatives and Labour Party I pointed out that we were a Nationalist organisation. There are many of us in this Party and indeed many millions of other British people who feel a growing discomfort at the way in which the United States is forcing Western ideology on to the Middle East.

After ten minutes they thanked me and that was that. As with all foreign journalists that I have encountered they are much more polite and respectful than the home grown variety. I say that with one exception, that being a vile dragon/female hybrid I encountered working for CNN at one of the first RWB's.
