How to Protect Your Online Privacy

It's never too late....
How to Remove Your Google Search History Before Google's New Privacy Policy Takes Effect
On March 1st, Google will implement its new, unified privacy policy, which will affect data Google has collected on you prior to March 1st as well as data it collects on you in the future. Until now, your Google Web History (your Google searches and sites visited) was cordoned off from Google's other products. This protection was especially important because search data can reveal particularly sensitive information about you, including facts about your location, interests, age, sexual orientation, religion, health concerns, and more. If you want to keep Google from combining your Web History with the data they have gathered about you in their other products, such as YouTube or Google Plus, you may want to remove all items from your Web History and stop your Web History from being recorded in the future. Here's how you can do that...

The Cricket That Roared

It’s just a matter of time before U.S. tires of Israel
"Israel doesn't know when to stop, and it could pay dearly as a result."by Gideon LevyAn elephant and an ant will meet in Washington on Monday for a critical summit. But wait, who here is the elephant and who the ant? Who is the superpower and who the patronage state? A new chapter is being written in the history of nations. Never before has a small country dictated to a superpower; never before has the chirp of the cricket sounded like a roar; never has the elephant resembled the ant - and vice versa. No Roman province dared tell Julius Caesar what to do, no tribe ever dreamed of forcing Genghis Khan to act in accordance with its own tribal interests. Only Israel does this. On Monday, when Barack Obama and Benjamin Netanyahu meet at the White House, it will be hard to tell which one is the real leader of the world.

Texas Affirmative Action Case May Hinge on Justice Kennedy
|
News; Posted on: 2012-02-23 17:34:19 [ Print / Instant Flyer |
|
Will it happen in our lifetime?
The U.S. Supreme Court this week agreed to hear a case out of the University of Texas that challenges affirmative action in college admissions. The decision could bring an end to race-based admissions in higher education.
Here is a guest post by Sarah Garland of the Hechinger Report, a nonprofit that exists to deliver the sort of in-depth education journalism many daily newspapers can no longer afford. You can read the post here, or there, where it was first published.
Affirmative action in college admissions is on the Supreme Court docket again this year after a white student named Abigail Fisher challenged a University of Texas program meant to promote diversity on UT campuses.
Affirmative-action proponents, including many university leaders, are concerned that if the University of Texas loses, efforts to increase diversity in U.S. colleges will be severely undercut. Critics of affirmative action are thrilled that the issue is back in play after a 2003 Supreme Court decision in a lawsuit against the University of Michigan seemed to settle the issue, allowing colleges and universities leeway to consider a student’s race as one of many factors in admissions decisions.

FBI Warns of Threat from Anti-Government Extremists – But Why? And Why Now?
|
News; Posted on: 2012-02-08 18:21:47 [ Print / Instant Flyer |
|
by L. Crane
Reuters announced on Monday that the FBI agents at a news conference warned that anti-government extremists opposed to taxes and regulations pose a growing threat to law enforcement.
The particular emphasis seems a bit puzzling, considering that no "sovereign citizen" incidents have been highlighted in the news recently. In fact, a review of online FBI's media outlets reveals nothing concerning the Sovereign Citizen Movement since September 2011:
Sovereign Citizens A Growing Domestic Threat to Law Enforcement
Domestic Terrorism: The Sovereign Citizen Movement (April 2010)
In fact, coverage on this week's news conference is completely absent from the FBI's website, news page, or press releases page, making the non-sequitur all the more
obvious. When all the reports seem to lead back to one, single Reuters press release as the only coverage, one starts to wonder. Is that actually what the FBI emphasized, given the narrower (and dated) coverage emphasizing actual acts of violence and weapons stockpiling concerning the Sovereign Citizen Movement reflected on their news outlets? Or is this just more titillating media spin? And toward what end?

Even better than Hans Brinker...
Dutch girl, 16, becomes youngest sailor to circumnavigate globe single-handed
Laura Dekker cheered into final harbour of St Maarten but may not return to Netherlands after goverment resistance to trip
Laura Dekker, a 16-year old Dutch sailor who has become the youngest person ever to circumnavigate the globe single-handed, has threatened never to return to the Netherlands because of government resistance to her adventures.
Dekker arrived on the Caribbean island of St Maarten on Saturday on board her 38ft boat, Guppy, and admitted she sometimes wondered what she was doing during her voyage. She also described her battles with the Dutch authorities who wanted to prevent her setting sail as a "frightening and traumatic experience" and said she was discussing with her parents the possibility of moving abroad, most likely to New Zealand.
When Dekker sailed into harbour at the St Maarten yacht club late on Saturday night, aged 16 years and 123 days, she was met by crowds of wellwishers and stepped on to the dock accompanied by her mother, Babs Muller, her father Dick Dekker, and her sister and grandparents.

Just a note to educate yourselves on Federal and your state laws so that, when the time comes, you don't have to ask 911 for permission...
On Christmas Day, 18-year-old Sarah McKinley lost her husband to lung cancer, leaving her the sole caregiver to their three-month-old son.
On New Year’s Eve, the Oklahoma mother proved she was anything but defenceless after she shot and killed an intruder breaking into her home.
Two men tried breaking into Ms McKinley’s house, one armed with a 12-inch hunting knife. While on the phone with 911, the young mother shot and killed one of the intruders with a 12-gauge shotgun after he passed the threshold.
After her husband’s funeral the previous week, a man named Justin Martin stopped by Ms McKinley’s house, claiming he was a neighbour and only wanted to introduce himself.
Ms McKinley, 18, was suspicious. She said he was calling late at night, when it was ‘pitch black outside.’

65 years later, the movie still resonates...

LOS ANGELES — George Bailey can rest easy. He really did make a difference in the lives of people, including all 3.8 million in Los Angeles.
Bailey, for the one or two people who still haven't seen the classic Frank Capra film "It's A Wonderful Life," is a man driven to the brink of suicide when he comes to believe his life never really mattered.
It's up to his quirky guardian angel Clarence to set him straight by showing Bailey, played by Jimmy Stewart, what the world would have been like without him.
In honor of the film's 65th anniversary, the City Council declared Friday "It's A Wonderful Life Day" in Los Angeles.
To get people in the spirit, Councilman Tom LaBonge, several members of Capra's family and a few others gathered at the director's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on a sunny holiday morning.

UK PM Recalls Parliament For London Riot Crisis

Open border diversity delivers the goods.
British Prime Minister David Cameron recalled Parliament from its summer recess Tuesday and nearly tripled the number of police on the streets after three days of rioting in London blossomed into a full-blown political crisis.
Cameron described the scenes of burning buildings and smashed windows in London and several other British cities as "sickening," but refrained from more extreme measures such as calling in the military to help beleaguered police restore order.
Instead, he said 16,000 officers would be on the streets of the capital Tuesday night, almost tripling the number that were out Monday night.

Sex in the Digital Age: Just One Human Required

Who needs a real-life relationship partner when you can flip on a switch? ~ Ed.
Jeremy Hsu, InnovationNewsDaily Senior Writer
Sexuality in the Digital Age can mean sexting on smartphones, hookups through Craigslist and Facebook, and transmitting lewd photos like Anthony Weiner or Brett Favre. But while humans continue to define the do's and don'ts of online lust, a new generation of computer programs may have already figured it out. Thanks to advances in artificial intelligence, a scandal like Anthony Weiner's doesn't even necessarily need two humans anymore.
Online chat bots already send come-hither messages to users of social media or dating websites. Video games and online programs also offer virtual girlfriend (or boyfriend) experiences on smartphones and handheld video game consoles. The crude connections may signal a "robotic moment" for society where humans begin turning to artificial intelligence to fulfill emotional needs, said Sherry Turkle, director of MIT's Initiative on Society and Self.
"I did find people who were interested in artificial boyfriends and girlfriends, in artificial spouses," Turkle told InnovationNewsDaily.

New View on the Origin of First Settlers in Iceland
|
News; Posted on: 2011-06-06 15:49:57 [ Print / Instant Flyer |
|
An archeological find in Hafnir on the Reykjanes peninsula (close to Keflavík Airport) may indicate that some men had started to come to Iceland before the year 874 AD, the year that has traditionally been considered the first year Nordic men came to Iceland to stay.
Archeologist dr. Bjarni F. Einarsson says that research at Hafnir indicate ruins of a cabin (Icelandic: Skáli) built well before the traditional year of origin of settlement.
“Usually when we find a cabin in Iceland we assume it is an ordinary farm, but then you should find outhouses as well. A thorough search by various means no other houses are found near the cabin and that makes one wonder what type of house it may have been.”

Despite Massive Protest, US Senate Passes S 510 Food Safety Bill
|

The insanity continues...
The new Food Tyranny Act -- called the "Food Safety Modernization Act" in the U.S. Senate -- has been passed by the senate today. It would give the FDA vast new powers to criminalize and imprison farmers and food producers while doing absolutely nothing to address to real root of the food contamination problem: Factory animal farm operations (which are regulated under the USDA, not the FDA).
The bill passed 73 to 25, with Sen Tom Coburn (R-Oklahoma) emerging as the greatest "voice of reason" in the debate. His last-ditch amendment to reduce the scale of the bill was defeated this morning.
Here's the official vote record.
Notably, there wasn't a single Democrat who opposed the bill.

It looks as though the gaffe-prone Republican National Committee Chairman Mike Steele is going to be challenged for the position by Saul Anuzis of Michigan.

Minneapolis-based Somali Gangs Ran Sex Rings in 3 States

Diversity...the gift that keeps on giving.
Twenty-nine people have been indicted in a sex trafficking ring in which Somali gangs in Minneapolis allegedly forced girls under age 14 into prostitution in Minnesota, Tennessee, Ohio and other unnamed places, according to an indictment unsealed Monday.
The indictment, unsealed in U.S. District Court in the Middle District of Tennessee, said one of the gangs' goals was recruiting females under age 18, including some under age 14, and forcing them into prostitution in exchange for cash, drugs or other items.
Gang members had been conspiring to recruit young girls for the sex ring since January 2000, the indictment said.
